i was busy with cards this weekend! this first one is for the sketch over on Jen's blog:

how cute is she???? the panels are done usig the bandana technique from the technique junkies newsletter. the white dots are the ranger inksentials pen which i finally got in stock not long ago. die cut is covered in ruby slippers and tiara glitz stickles.

next up - the sketch challenge over on SCS last week:

i got the scarecrow from peachy keen stamps. b oth images are colored with copics.

fianlly a card i did for the current challenge over at paper patch crafts:

the owl is from one of the inkadinkado sets i recently added to my website called birds galore. he is stamped with brilliance chocolate pearlescent ink - also available on my website. primas have sands of time bead pops.

and now i am off to bed as i have had a long day and expect another one tomorrow!! i will have some cute LOs to share tomorrow.

Tutorial - alcohol ink and SFYTT

i sure hope y'all are enjoying these tutorials and finding them useful - leave me a comment and let me know if i should keep going!! today starts our focus on alcohol inks - if you haven't played with these i highly recomend them! you can purchase them individually on my website so you can pick and choose your colors instead of having to buy them in sets. Alcohol inks are unique because they are made for slick, non-porous surfaces. this allows you to color acrylic, tin foil, glass, plastic, metal - lots of options for altering embellishments and tin containers.

today is another recipe card for the recipe exchange over on the paper patch crafts MB so i kept it simple for laminating purposes. i used Jen's SFYTT for this week:











and here is the card:

the stamps here are done using the studio G pigment inks - they stamp very smoothly and the colors are very soft and pretty. the bottom squares are done with alcohol inks.

Gather supplies: Ranger glossy paper, 2-3 colors alcohol inks, alcohol metallic mixative (optional), alcohol blending solution, felt pads and blending tool. Remember you can find all of these items in the web store.

begin by opening all of your inks and the blending solution. squirt each color onto your felt pad forming a dot like this picture - keep the colors separate, not on top of each other. ad one or two drops of metallic mixative if you are using it. put a few drops of blending solution also. the more blending solution you use the lighter the colors will be.

working quickly dab the felt onto your glossy paper in random patterns. add more ink if you need to as you go along. dabbing on top of areas already colored will make interesting patterns. it is essential to use glossy paper as alcohol inks are made for NON-POROUS, slick surfaces. y ou can use photo paper but the effects are not as vibrant.

once done i cut out all the squares i needed with the cricut.

got another LO done

here is the sketch i followed - it is the latest one over on the Paper Patch Crafts message board. i have not been able to get to those lately so i am SO happy to get one done as i LOVE all the ladies over there!!
when i first saw the sketch i was a little intimidated. i had NO IDEA what i was going to do with it. then i went thru my pics to print and get done and realized i had the PERFECT thing for this - i turned it into a one page LO and here is what i did:

HOW CUTE is that swimming pool??? DD has super light sensitive skin so i loved this p[ool when i saw it. i cut all the circles with the george cricut cart and the blue water drops are actually a plant cut from the new home accents cart that i modified a bit. i dabbed the tips with a ranger paint dabber - perfect effect for splashing water dontcha think? title is swirl grungeboard letters painted with another ranger paint dabber - so super quick and simple!!! the whites of the frog's eyes are also a paint dabber. Notice the warning label below - No Diving - ROTFL!!!!!



keep an eye out here - I will be adding a new product line to my site for you guys - possibly two - think tiny, cute, cheap........hahahahahha!

and now for the card - ANOTHER pink cat!! this is for a sketch challenge over at Paper Patch Crafts. Go check out all the new stuff Ann has gotten in - i especially have my eye on the new design street papers.

i stamped the kitty in currant adirondack ink and i like the look - a nice change from straight black all the time. i colored her in using my aquapainter and adirondack inks in purple twilight, shell pink and clover. i just love the brightness of these colors! the three little roses are also from a pink cat studio set - they are covered in cotton candy stickles and so is the pink rose on her hat. then i hand drew some doodles and traced those in cotton candy too. and now to explain the bottom portion of the background. here are a couple close ups:


the pics definitely don't do it justice. i got this technique out of julia andrus's most recent book - paper transformed - i highly recomend it! i started with white cardstock, colored it with the adirondack inks and my ink blending foam. covered it in several layers of UTEE. put on some perfect medium and then several colors of perfect pearls. more UTEE on top and then as it melted it sunk down thru the pearls in droplets and created an interesting mottled effect.

Ranger Paint Dabbers

I am beginning to add the Ranger paint dabbers to the inventory in the store and played with them for the first time. i saw this tutorial and could not pass it up. (this whole blog is amazing).

the first card was done for sketch challenge #5 over on the board at Paper Patch. we were given this sketch from pencillines.com but were challenged to turn it into a mother's day card.

and here is mine:



I used gold paint dabber but laid it on smooth. then alcohol ink over that. then the texture on the corner and strips was added by dabbing the paint dabbers and then drying with a heat tool. went over it again with alcohol inks. and of COURSE the dots down one side SCREAMED for some pops from Sugar and Scraps and I just so happened to get some brand-spankin new ones in that matched PERFECTLY! Sands of time - shades of gold, bronze and deep burgandy and all shimmery. Below is a close up of the pops and the texture.


next card is based on the mojo monday sketch over on Julee's blog if you play by sunday there is a prize up for grabs!!!

For this one i used the bronze paint dabber, alcohol inks and then the background squares are smudged with matching peeled paint distrass ink and sprayed with pearl mist using the bronze perfect pearls. it is cloudy today so i just could NOT get a pic that really showed the shimmer on this one.



The sentiment is printed out and then i used one of the newest Studio G stamps for the frame.

well i am off to tech club (pray the baby is good for her sweet dada!!)

More skittle album, a layout and FREE GOODIES

my next two installments on the skittle coaster album are ready. The first one is done using the Technostamper Monday Lunch Sketch:

The technique junkies technique i used is called aged tiles and i have to say i really love this one! i will be using it more i think. the heart stamp is from the new studio g series 11. and yes, that is Pezzy letting her brother cover her from head to toe in stickers :P

I was not sure if I could pull this one off but i managed to. The TJ technique used here is called cuttlebug Glow and this is another one i will be doing more of - it uses perfect pearls and anything using perfect pearls is a winner in my book!! (see below if you want to win some!) the stamp on either side of the pic is another from series 11 and is stamped in versamark and then dusted with perfect pearls. the background was sort of a happy accident - my craft mat had pefect pearls all over it from doing the cuttlebug portion and i wanted to use reinker to cover the coaster - quicker than paper right? so i was going to clean up the pearls but then i figured why not leave it there. so i just squirted the reinker on the mat, ran my brayer thru it and inked up my coaster. well despite there being very little pearl powder it really gives it a super sparkle! the skittles just happened to be a perfect match - these are available for purchase over at sugar and scraps. She does great work! If you don't see them contact her as she is scrambling to get everything up!

this is a pretty simple one but i really like it. these are some of my favorite pics from our trip to my moms. The circles i used for the balls are covered in clear embossing powder to give them a sort of plastic ball look. bottom border is a series 11 stamp again. and i almost got to the end without using skittles but there is ONE on here - can you find it?? leave me a comment telling me where it is and you will be entered into a drawing for 2 jars of perfect pearls - your choice of colors! Bright Birthday....

So have you heard about TCP Tuesdays?? The girls over at The Cat's Pajamas issue a new challenge each Tuesday and you can win to be Swanky Stamper and get a gift certificate. This week was a sketch which I really liked BUT I did not get it submitted by the Saturday night deadline - too much goin on yesterday! however I really love the way the card turned out so I thought I'd post it here anyway!

The stamp is from The Cat's Pajamas, ink and paper are SU. I almost did my usual and stamped in black, then colored in with prismas - but then i decided to get really colorful! each cake has teeny little half pearls sent to me by Anne over at Paper patch crafts. i spritzed the pattern paper really good with perfect pearls mist made from water, pearl and interference green PP. IRL it really shimmers but it was raining here so i did not have good light for the picture. and OF COURSE it is finished off with skittles - for those of you reading this NOT from The Board (the cricut board) - skittles are little half beads on clearance right now at Michaels and SillySkittles over on the board started a nationwide obsession with them!! so they have been dubbed skittles and you should really check out what she has in her etsy shop - Sugar and Scraps - as much as i love these little beads i CAN'T WAIT to get my order from her and get to work with those adorable little babies!!!!

Daddies and their little girls...

My third and final project from my first design team kit of goodies from Anne over at Paper Patch Crafts:

I used the sketch challenge from Jen del Muro's Sketch For You To Try (geez is it already time for another one tomorrow???). I have too many cards but i LOVE to play these, especially Jen's so i have been adapting them a bit to other uses.

Check out the silver heart in the corner. That, my friends, is a coll little embellishment i had never come across before. it is by kaiser and it is made out of wood and very delicate looking. not too bulky and great for altering any way you would like. for this i wanted it to look silver metallic to match the flower charm so i just smooshed it into versamark and brushed it with pewter perfect pearls - what could be simpler?? they come in different shapes and i love the delicate scrolly look they have. go check 'em out!!

and now back to my house work - and BOY do i have house work - i may not get to play until tomorrow at Tech Club - EGADS!!!!!

today I have my second design team project for Paper Patch Crafts:

The basic layout is the same as the note cube - Ranger's crackle paint in Worn Lipstick around the edges. Canvas sprayed with Perfect Pearls, water and reinker in a mini mister (one of my fave things).

the top panel has flowers and dirt pile cut from Walk In My Garden cricut cartridge.

the bottom panel has studio g stamps dusted with dry perfect pearls and of course tons of Paper Patch's gorgeous collection of primas!

Squared....

I have one of my Design Team projects to show you for Paper Patch Crafts. The concept is completely scraplifted from Amy over at Pickled Paper.

Anne at paper patch sent me a collection of goodies to play with and i have three projects in all so this is the first in a series :)

i based the layout of each side on an SCS sketch challenge (since i really have enough cards I am trying to play but do something different with them - stay tuned):



Anne sent a collection of pink, green, and yellow embossed papers, prima flowers She has a GREAT collection here including the fabulous new 2008 collections), clear and lime green bubbles, a mini mister with reinker and perfect pearls powder (which you can get here), and a cool piece of canvas which i had never worked with before - among other things you will see in future projects this week!

I started with a plain wood block from Michael's and painted the edges of each side very thickly with Ranger's crackle paint in Mustard Seed and Worn Lipstick. It needs to be painted on thickly so the crackles are prominent. it still dries relatively flat. I cut the canvas into squares and sprayed liberally with the pearl mist and reinker. this not only turned them green but gave them a bit of golden green shimmer as well.

All pieces are edged in SU glorious Green ink. Large Butterfly stamp is SU and colored with a clear spica glitter pen but it doesn't show well in the pic. The little girl swinging is my very first elzybells stamp (YAY!!!! more of those coming soon too!) and it is colored with prismas and gamsol. The butterfly is a studio g $1 stamp with perfect pearls. The little flowers and dirt pile are cut with Walk In My Garden cart for my cricut.

FInally the top :) the clip is a pink binder clip glued to the top. Then i just covered it with primas. the prima centers are the bubbles in some and then crystal stickles with pink seed beads in others. Love this look and have TONS of these from my beading days so i may be doing this more often. I will likely use this to clip my little sketches when i am working on a sketch challenge :)
