From random thought to total obsession faster than the speed of light...
HAven't been to Pink Cat Studios? then RUN don't WALK because Melissa has some seriously cute stamps (one day i will own them all.....) I colored Tweet with copics and a bit of dark blue spica pen. The snowflake panel is rubbed with brilliance pearlescent sky blue - i use dew drops because they are easier to control. i also rubbed it along the edges of the nesties shape. i highlighted the snowflakes and main panel with diamond stickles. the snowflake is from the seasonal grungeboard set, inked with encore silver (and yes to my surprise there IS a difference between encore silver, brilliance patinum planet and brilliance starlight silver!) after inking it silver i ran it thru the snowflake Cuttlebug folder too. Then i rubbed over the raised parts with the brilliance sky clue. the dots up top are sugar pops.

these are jars i am going to fill with hallowen nonsense and send to my brother and his friend. i think they will get a kick out of them. we will be using crackle paint - an amazing product that i just adore!!
Let's gather supplies: Crackle paint (only one color is necessary but i did several projects at once), cardstock, stamps, black soot distress ink, coordinating colors of distress ink (two is nice to use as opposed to one), foam ink blending tool, black paint dabber, fragments charm (brand spankin' new!), patterned paper, glossy accents, brad or eyelet, ribbon or fiber, stickles, grungeboard - all of these items can be found on my website except for paper and ribbon.
Start by painting on the crackle paint - it will take awhile to dry. Shake the paint well and then paint it on with the brush cap - just cover SOME of your cardstock - not all of it. Put it on a little thick so the cracks are nice and noticeable - i don't find it curls my paper too badly once it is glued down. i did gift bags too which will be a project posted later this week....
i did two pieces of cardstock and two bags. The top one uses shabby shutters and dusty concord. this one uses antique linen and black soot.
next let's do our fragment so it can dry. these come in a package with a wide variety of shapes and sizes. choose one that fits nicely over a portion of your patterned paper you want to highlight. squirt some glossy accents on the back of your fragment.
Place the piece over the patterned paper and press down from the center out gently - wiggle it a bit if necessary - so there are no air bubbles. Let it dry and then trim it out.
Also - optional - choose some grungeboard (i used "boo" letters but the seasonal set has some great halloween ones too. color your grungeboard - you can ink it directly with an ink pad, cover it in stickles, paint it, use perfect pearls shimmer mist and let dry if necessary.
Once the crackle paint is completley dry choose a couple ink colors and blend them over the unpainted portions of your cardstock. it doesn't matter if you get it on the paint too. the best way to use this tool is to dab it on the ink pad, then start off the edge of your piece on the craft sheet and begin rubbing in a circular motion with light pressure. gradually move onto your cardstock.
Next stamp you background stamps with black soot distress ink. using a slightly damp paper towel GENTLY rub the stamped image off of the painted areas:
Ink your main image(s) with the black paint dabber - rub across to knock the peaks of paint down. stamp it.
Last step - using the foam ink blending tool again - rub vintage photo distress ink or similar dark brownish color along all the edges. use a distressing tool along the edges for added distress look if you want.
Here is a close up of one of the jars.
Attach your fragment charm with ribbon or fiber using a brad or an eyelet. glue grungeboard pieces on.
To make the jar i attached my paper pieces with mod podge and used alcohol ink on the plastic lids.
crackle paint is GREAT stuff but especially for halloween!! i am hoping to get a wooden halloween plaque done using it too.........

I took the colors from the pics and while i would not have normally put them together i think it works well. threading water punch along the bottom. Title and upper left corner design are cut from the new cricut storybook cartridge - OMG i love this one!!
I used versamagic ink which i just started stocking on my website and i really love it. The bracket here is a studio G stamp - a little notorious for being a bit difficult to stamp because the ink beads up but you can see here it works beautifully with the thick & creamy versamagic ink. In addition the ink does really well on textured paper too!
Next up is the grungeboard pieces - i chose a lock and key (and that is what the smaller title says) because we used to let them run around the basement til they started getting into the treadmill and chewing apart the wiring. now they don't get out much :) grungeboard comes a lightish gray color. using the same versamagic dew drop ink pads i first colored the grungeboard completely in a light color then went over it gently with a darker color to make the details of the pattern show up well. the versamagic covered VERY WELL i am pleased to report. hhhmmm as i look at it i realize i need some little brads on that lock :)
The next detail i want to point out is to show you what NOT to do. the border across the top is a series 18 studio G stamp. you can see on one side (Bottom) the stamp is clear and looks like little twigs but on the other side (top) the detail is lost. this is because i put TOO MUCH ink on the stamp and then i also pushed too hard when stamping.

I love this technique because they aren't just all shimmery but also sort of "poofy"
Supplies: grungeboard or chipboard pieces, versamark, UTEE, small brush, perfect pearls, small stylus or tweezers to hold the piece while heating. Smoosh your grungeboard piece into versamark until it is coated really well. Place it in the bead tray and cover with UTEE. gently dump off the excess.
Use the stylus or tweezers to hold the piece still and begin heating - start with your gun high above and slowly move it down as it begins to melt, once it melts you can get closer. Aim your gun away and sprinkle on more UTEE into the soft UTEE until you get a good solid coverage. Let it cool slighty - this is a bit of trial and error - and then brush on the perfect pearls. it will stick to the UTEE. once it is covered heat it just a little bit so the perfect pearls sticks-you will see a slight change. sometimes i add another layer of perfect pearls so it is good and shimmery!

NEW metallic and white distress crackle paints. the white (called picket fence) is a pure white crackle paint - sure to please many requests from some of you. the 3 metallic crackle paints are so incredible and are slightly different than the regular distress crackle formulation. these metallics create a "crazing" effect that look like vintage shattered glass. you have to see them to believe them...
NEW distress stickles! stickles you say? yes stickles! but these aren't your ordinary stickles (of course), this formulation combines a pearlized glitter instead of metallic glitter and composed of carious particle sizes. pair that with the popular color palette of distress and you have a very vintage (almost mica looking) distress glitter glue. the texture is amazing, the colors are amazing and the results...still pure distress.
I will have many other new items from Tim and Ranger going up too. Know you want something and want me to special order it for you - just let me know and i will get it in.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!! ha ha ha! while we are all thinking about stickles - i had a customer request for a tutorial of sorts (*waving HI to Charlotte*). not so much a tutorial as an idea demonstration so here it is - what are some of the ways to use stickles on LOs? now i was hoping to get more LOs completed but i tell ya CHA craziness has been kickin my butt - so i only have a two pager done but lots of stickles! used christmas frosted lace, Christmas red, and cotton candy stickles plus opal liquid pearls (liquid pearls are also coming to the store soon...):
first and foremost are stickles dots! here i have used them to border some of the pics. i also LOVE glitter papers but often i either don't love the pattern or don't love the colors. with stickles you can make your own out of whatever patterned paper suits your fancy. here i added frosted lace on the dots of the patterned paper.
you can also cover large areas with stickles - i love using them to "frost" my cupcakes. i am constantly asked do you really need all the colors - i never thought so until i got them!! but on the cupcake trio i give you three different looks to see for yourself. all of the icings were cut from pink paper. the first is frosted with frosted lace, the middle one is frosted with opal liquid pearls (paint it on with a paintbrush) and the third one is frosted with cotton candy. Another idea not shown here is to highlight any of your stamping with stickles. so charlotte i hope you like it!!!!! i have another customer challenge coming up soon - if YOU have any requests/challenges for me PLEASE send them i LOVE it LOVE it!!!!

I started by printing my pics using the contact sheet size. These fit perfectly on the blocks with some room to decorate. I put a tiny drop of glossy accents on each front corner of the pic and then glued it front side down so that it would be on the inside of the block.
next i inked the edges of the top and bottom block with brilliance pearlescent ink and heat set them with a heat gun. The top is sky blue and the bottom is ivy green.
i stamped littlew bugs and a phrase from a studio g set with brilliance pearlescent inks and heat set too. i ADORE these little dew drop inks i have added to the store - the size and shape of them makes it a BREEZE to ink up your stamp in several different colors.
next i attached two squares of patterned paper to the INSIDE sides of the top and bottom blocks with a thin layer of mod podge.
now for assembly. i used e6000 glue. i applied it to all four edges of the bottom piece and attached all four sides and let dry. then i applied the glue to the edges of the top piece, laid it down and slid the block down over it - perfect fit!
This pic really shows the 3-d looking effect of having the pic and paper on the inside and the stamping on the outside.
i decorated the top with a piece of grungeboard from the minis set, inked well with more brilliance pearlescent ink and two primas from the paper patch. i covered the centers with glossy accents and then loaded them up with various colored green seed beads. i dotted dimensional pearls around the edges.
Each corner is an indent so i ran a line of glossy accents along each one and dropped some Blue Lagoon bead pops in upside down. i did one corner at a time so they could dry. these are by catherine/silly skittles and available on my website - she does an excellent job with them - not just dies but all shimmery and variations in color are superb!
i plan on making more of these it turned out so cute. i may even make some two blocks high for larger pics or more pics.
